Biography
Uzma Hasan is a fractional CEO, creative strategist, and boardroom changemaker who drives transformation at the intersection of culture and commerce. She partners with artists, institutions, and investors to align bold storytelling with business strategy, guiding organizations through complex shifts in leadership, identity, and financial sustainability.
With a globally oriented executive career, Uzma is currently Chair of the Bush Theatre; a multi award winning new writing venue whose mission is to disrupt the canon. She was previously appointed Interim CEO of Ffilm Cymru Wales, where she led a financial and corporate restructure of the national public funding body during a critical moment of transition. As consultant to cultural institutions including Doha Film Institute, Eurimages, and the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Uzma leverages her expertise at the intersection of creativity, finance, and strategic vision to produce impactful outcomes.
Her governance expertise spans public and private sectors: from trustee roles at Bird’s Eye View, a non profit that champions women in film, to making history as the first global majority board member of Channel 4, the world's youngest skewing public broadcaster - an appointed made by the Prime Minister.
She is also an award-winning film producer with two decades of experience leading international creative teams. Uzma’s latest feature film CREATURE is directed by Academy Award winner Asif Kapadia (AMY) in a genre defying collaboration with Lawrence Olivier Award winning choreographer Akram Khan (DESH). Previous work include FIRSTBORN (Netflix), and THE INFIDEL a hit comedy that inspired both a stage musical and Bollywood remake DHARAM SANKAT MEIN.
Uzma’s leadership has been recognised with a Mosaic Arts & Culture Award from HRH Prince’s Trust and nominations for the Asian Woman of Achievement Awards. She serves on selection committees and juries for BAFTA, the British Independent Film Awards and Film London amongst others.
An alum of Harvard University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Uzma studied Film and Literature as a Kennedy Scholar. Based in New York, she lives with her husband, son, their dog Lucy and Siberian forest cat Sikander Jaan.
